Case 02 of 10
Odoo MIS
A multi-tenant management information system. I own product work on its HRMS and Procurement modules.
- My part: Owned (owned the product)
- Role: Product Manager · HRMS and Procurement
- Where: ING Tech
- 10+ company tenants
- 2 modules owned
Product visuals
Illustrative mockups and conceptual diagrams, not production screenshots:
- HRMS (illustrative mockup): The HRMS overview for one company, chosen from the tenants on the shared platform. Sample data.
- Multi-tenancy (conceptual diagram): Ten-plus companies on one platform: shared needs become platform features, unique ones become scoped change requests.
- Employees (illustrative mockup): Employee records within one tenant.
- Payroll (conceptual diagram): A payroll run, with the salary calculation step that was updated for tax-law alignment.
- Procurement (conceptual diagram): A purchase from request to receipt, the same for every tenant.
The problem
Every company on the platform shares one product and one backlog. Their needs differ, but the platform can't fork for each of them: work done for one tenant has to hold up for all.
My responsibility
- Discovering and analysing tenant-specific requirements.
- Prioritising requests across a shared backlog.
- Managing HRMS and Procurement features.
- Managing requirements from discovery through release.
Decisions and contributions
Prioritise common business needs as reusable platform features, rather than continuously creating one-off solutions for individual tenants.
- Understand needs in discovery, before they become tickets.
- One shared backlog, not a queue per client.
- Carry prioritised work all the way to release.
Working with engineering, QA and stakeholders
- Coordinating with development and QA teams.
- Evaluating change requests against platform-wide impact.
Challenges and trade-offs
Platform coherence over speed for any single tenant: work for one has to hold up for all.
Outcomes
- HRMS and Procurement taken from discovery through release.
- One platform serving 10+ company tenants.
- Payroll salary calculation updated to align better with applicable tax-law requirements.
